THIS IS NOT A STATE POSITION; A UNIVERSITY ENTERPRISES CORPORATION AT CSUSB (“UEC”) APPLICATION IS REQUIRED:
CLOSING DATE: A pool of qualified candidates will be established for current and future vacancies. Qualified applicants will be kept active through September 24, 2020.
OVERVIEW: Employment Status: Benefited, temporary, position through September 24th, 2019. (Position may possibly be subject to renewal dependent on available funding, availability of work and satisfactory job performance).
WORK SCHEDULE: Typically, Monday through Friday 7:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., with some evenings and weekends required.
Under general supervision from the GEAR UP Assistant Director, the Site Coordinator will work independently to:
- In collaboration with the Student Events Manager, plan and coordinate various before/during/ afterschool/ evening/ weekend, school break and/or summertime GEAR UP activities, program events and services at assigned school site.
- Facilitate and deliver a comprehensive mentoring program;
- Facilitate and deliver a comprehensive tutoring program;
- Create and update an Individual Academic Plan (IAP) for each program participant, careful to ensure that the plan includes a clear goal of meeting A-G college admission requirements;
- Review transcripts and make contact with each program participant and parents no less than once per semester to review their IAP, providing modifications or additions as necessary;
- Monitor student academic progress, including the collection, and interpretation of grade checks no less than twice per month;
- Communicate with school counselors, administration, and other support personnel to ensure that academic progress is shared, accurate, and consistent for each program participant;
- Develop and assign appropriate individualized academic interventions;
- Provide advice and assistance in secondary and postsecondary course selection to program participants, when applicable;
- Advise students and parents information on academic requirements, levels of proficiency, and appropriate steps to graduate from high school and enroll in college;
- Provide workshops to program participants and parents with information on Federal student financial aid programs and benefits, FAFSA, and college applications.
- Provide assistance to program participants in preparing for college entrance examinations and completing college admission applications;
- Act as the primary point of contact between GEAR UP staff and program participants for all academic related matters, such as G.P.A, bi-monthly grade reports, program status, progress towards earning a high school diploma, and progress toward enrolling in college;
- Review class schedules each semester and work with target schools to implement schedule changes if necessary;
- Work with students/parents to review admissions, deposits requirements, status, summer orientation, other mandatory programs or steps needed to enroll in college at the earliest available term.
- Review the FAFSA with students/parents;
- Maintain accurate and detailed records, provide reports, and regularly update the student records management database;
- Encourage the intellectual development of students;
- Attend High School, College, and Career Fairs;
- Ensure that GEAR UP is highly publicized in each service school, including distributing brochures, promotional materials and other media;
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of college entrance application processes, financial aid requirements, scholarships, and programs of study;
- Address student concerns when issues arise;
- Provide support to GEAR UP events including field trips, workshops, large and small scale activities, parent engagement opportunities, summer residential programs and camps, and other GEAR UP related activities.
- Assist with collecting data for the Annual Performance Reports (including collection, accuracy and verification of data);
- Participate in department meetings;
- Travel to school sites required
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALI FICATIONS:
- Applicants must possess a Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Social Service or other related field. Equivalent amounts of job-related experience may be substituted for one year of the education requirement. A Master's Degree is preferred.
- Applicants must demonstrate a minimum of one year of proven success in working with GEAR UP or similar TRiO programs.
- Applicants must have experience providing students with resources on middle school, high school or college campuses that assist first generation college-going students such as SSS, EOP and McNair.
- Applicants must demonstrate experience working with IAP's, A-G requirements, and demonstrate the ability to successfully navigate students through the academic coursework required to graduate with a high school diploma and complete a secondary school rigorous program of study.
- Must have experience with FAFSA and other financial resources such as grants, work study, loan forgiveness, and scholarships.
- Applicants must have strong organizational, management, leadership, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills are required.
- Applicants must demonstrate the ability to execute the project activities and possess the ability to work with students, set a positive example, and serve as a role model.
- Additionally, applicants must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Applicants must possess the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information, along with the ability to work cooperatively with a diverse group of people, exercise sound judgment, determine priorities, complete assigned projects in a timely manner and work well under tight deadlines.
- Applicants must possess the following critical strengths including, but not limited to: reliability, attention to detail, and strong self-initiative.
- A working knowledge PeopleSoft experience is preferred.
- Strong preference will be given to candidates that have received TRIO-specific training, such as the training sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education.
- Strong preference will be given to candidates who have succeeded in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the project's target population.
- Bilingual (Spanish) is preferred.
